6th Hendon

Note: The following has been prepared from an article that appeared in the 1957 Hendon Local Association booklet that marked 50 years of Scouting. It was prepared at their invitation by Frank Griffiths, assisted by Lionel Siret and Jack Le Fort.

The 6th Hendon Troop, formed in 1921, was sponsored by the congregation of St John’s Church, West Hendon. Its first Scoutmaster was A Kitchen, who was followed by Cyril Gordon, Henry Branker DFC (killed in action 1944), A G Northcott, Rev. W C Underhill, Rev. A N Chester, E H Hutchinson and its present Scouter, B Hooper.

According to the District Directory for Hendon, dated June 1965, there was a 6th Hendon. This is probably the same Group mentioned above, as their meeting place was St John’s Church Hall, Algernon Road, west Hendon, NW4. The colour of their scarf was pale blue with the GSM/SM being Derek Eyres.
