Nights Away and Activities

Permit scheme

The Nights Away Permit scheme is an internal assessment scheme designed to ensure that all those leading nights away events for young people within Scouting have the skills, experience and personal suitability to do so.

Everyone who leads a nights away event for young people within Scouts is required to hold a Nights Away Permit for the type of event they are running.

Although managed locally, the Nights Away Permit Scheme is a national scheme, so once gained, a permit will allow you to run a nights away event in any District or County.

To apply for a Nights Away Permit you will need to log on to scouts.org.uk and apply by going to Programme support > My active permits > Start new permit

You can find more information on the Permit scheme by clicking here.

When you want to arrange a residential experience you’ll have to send a Nights Away Notification to the District.  Log on to scouts.org.uk and go to Programme support > New night away request to do this electronically.

You’ll also need an InTouch Policy – here’s an example to get you started:
