12th Hendon

Note: The following has been prepared from an article that appeared in the 1957 Hendon Local Association booklet that marked 50 years of Scouting. It was prepared at their invitation by Frank Griffiths, assisted by Lionel Siret and Jack Le Fort.

The 12th Hendon was, in 1921, the St John’s Church West Hendon Group. In 1926 St John’s was renumbered as the 6th Hendon. From 1929 – 1935 a Troop bearing this number was attached to Ravensfield College, The Burroughs, Hendon. In 1939 yet another change took place, when the title was taken by a new Troop at St Vincent’s, Mill Hill; this Group remained until 1947. Finally in 1950, the present 12th came into being, having been formed by the Scouters of 21st Hendon Group. The present 12th is an open Group attached to the new United Free Church at Mill Hill East with its Group Scoutmaster Mr R Michael Keene.
