11th Hendon

Note: The following has been prepared from an article that appeared in the 1957 Hendon Local Association booklet that marked 50 years of Scouting. It was prepared at their invitation by Frank Griffiths, assisted by Lionel Siret and Jack Le Fort.

The 11th Hendon Group was only recently closed (March 1955). It was registered in 1939 as one of the activities of the Orange Hill Boys’ Selective Central School (now part of Mill Hill; County High School). Its Headquarters were a Nissen hut at Apex Corner behind the new Royal Scot Hotel. The Scouter was Mr J S Pellow.

It would appear from the District Directory, dated June 1965, that a new 11th Hendon opened after 1957. It is recorded as being a Cub pack only, led by Brother Bernard Phelan. They met at St Vincent’s Orphanage, The Ridgeway, NW7 and the colour of their scarf was gold with a white border.
