Hendon & Edgware District history

In the meantime we are pleased to have received an assortment of information that has enabled us to start sharing some of their history.

Although Scouting started in both Hendon and Edgware in 1908 it was not until 1965 that the District of Hendon & Edgware was formed.  This came about when there were a number of changes to County boundaries and then only the six Edgware Groups that were located in the London Borough of Barnet joined Hendon District.

The Edgware Groups in Brent became part of the new Kingsbury & Kenton District while those in Harrow became part of the new Stanmore District.

As mentioned above Scouting in Hendon started in 1908 and, with the information that we have been supplied with we are able to create the following three sections:

We are grateful to the 2nd Edgware who have provided a link to their own web site which provides a history of Scouting in Edgware District and includes information about the Edgware Groups that did not join Hendon in 1965. Click here to view.
