GLN Scout Hillwalking Weekend 2026

Three other leaders from North London, Southgate and Enfield Districts and I are intending to organise a GLN Scout section hillwalking camp to the Peak District in May 2026 aimed at current T1/T2 hillwalking permit holders and those who have been on previous GLN Hillwalking weekends and are keen to get their Scouts out hillwalking.  The dates are 8th – 10th May 2026.

The theory is to give leaders the opportunity to take their Scouts away on weekend hillwalking camp and meet other like-minded leaders from within GLN County in a sociable environment whilst delivering a quality weekend experience for young people.

The plan is to use the indoor accommodation at Linnet Clough Scout Campsite near Stockport and to walk in the Hayfield & Edale areas both days. The cost will be around £85 per Scout and include indoor accommodation, minibus transport, food from Friday evening supper through to Sunday lunch before returning to London for around 7pm on the Sunday.

Initially we are looking for expressions of interest and to open it up to a maximum of 6 Scouts per Group + a leader from that Group to help do the catering and take responsibility for their young people. It is not essential for that leader to have a hillwalking permit. We are looking to take 7 Groups of 6 Scouts (42 Scouts in total) plus their leaders – so there are 49 places in total available and then a number of T1/T2 Hillwalking Permit holders from across GLN to lead each walking group. If a Scout Group has less than 6 Scouts wanting to attend then this is not a problem but their leader must still attend to help run the camp.
