Cubs’ Swimming Gala

Date: 22nd January 2023 Location: Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre Sections: Cub Scouts

Age Groups
– Under 9 ½ years
– Under 11 years

All races will be open to boys and girls from each Group. Ages are as at the date of the Gala.
 
Notes
1. A competitor may swim in a class above his or her age group but must NOT swim in multiple classes or in a class below their age.
2. All leaders must keep clear of the end of the pool where the Cubs are waiting for their race.
 
Relays
Requirements for the different relays are listed on the running order. Points count towards the trophy.
 
Breast Stroke
Start from the water; touch wall with TWO hands.
 
Back Stroke
Start from the water, holding wall rail, touch with ONE hand.
 
Free Style
Start from the water, touch with ONE hand.
 
Points
Heats:
– 1st place 3 points
– 2nd place 2 points
– 3rd place 1 points

First 2 will qualify for final. If there are only 2 heats then first 3 will qualify.

Finals:
– 1st place 6 points
– 2nd place 4 points
– 3rd place 2 points
 
Starting
SILENCE is essential at the beginning of each race.
 
Presentations
These will take place after everyone has changed into uniform at the end of the Gala.
 
Entry Fee
Each competitor or supporter will be charged £3 to enter
 
Refreshments
No food or drinks to be brought on to the pool side. There may be a café available which is cashless.
 
Dress
Leaders to encourage all participants to attend in uniform.
 
Competitors’ entries
Please keep your own record of who you are entering for each event in case we need to check any details during the evening.
 
Photography
Any adult wishing to take photos or video (including use of mobile phone cameras) will need to declare this on entry and complete a disclaimer form supplied by the pool. If we receive any representations then we may have to place a ban on any photography during the event.
 
Parents / Supporters
Under rules defined by Greenwich Leisure we have to separate competitors from the adults supporting their teams. All non uniformed adults and other supporters will be seated in the upstairs spectators area.
 
Competitors with their uniformed leaders will sit in their Groups along the pool side. Any parents designated as a Group’s team coach or organiser will need to be suitably identified by
wearing a Group scarf.
 
All Leaders/ Coaches are to remain with their Group unless asked by one of the organisers to come to the front.
 
Please remind all parents that the people running the events and scoring are all volunteers.
