Cubs’ Rafting Day 2024

Date: 5th May 2024 Location: ESSA Water Activities Centre Sections: Cub Scouts

The Cubs’ Rafting Day will be on Sunday 5th May 2024 (yes its Bank Holiday weekend) at ESSA Water Activity Centre (www.essa.org.uk) and will follow the same format as previous years i.e. build rafts in the morning then race them after lunch.

Arrive at ESSA for 09.45 for a 10.00 start and we should be finished by 16.30.

Teams made up of 4 – 8 Cubs at a cost of £18 per Cub.

Final numbers and payment (BACS or cheques payable to Barnet Borough District Scout Council) by 28th March 2024.

All those paying by BACS please put “Cubs Rafting your group” e.g. “Cubs Rafting 4EB” as reference.

Cubs should bring:

  • a packed lunch & drink(s)
  • 2 changes of clothes

All safety equipment will be provided by ESSA and 4EB.

If parents are just dropping off please get them to park at the top of the track and walk down – same for when collecting. If adults are staying, then they may drive slowly down the track and park in the bottom car park.

Each team will build their raft in the morning then races will begin after lunch.

Rafts will be inspected for safety during lunch.

It will be down to individual Packs to ensure you have consent forms for all your participants.

Packs will need to complete an ESSA Group Participants Form (see below) which need to be handed in on the day.

The day is strictly limited to an absolute maximum of 160 participants which I need to book and pay for prior to the event date so there will be no refunds.

This is also a very popular event and always oversubscribed so book early. Each Pack can enter 1 team although you may be able to enter more than 1 depending on take up – please let me know if you wish to enter another team on initial booking.

Can you please let Stu know whether you are entering along with numbers by 10th March 2024.

I will confirm your booking and whether you can have 1 or 2 teams.

Your confirmed numbers MUST be fully paid for by 28th March; failure to do so may result in you losing your Pack’s booking – you have been warned!

For the event Risk Assessment see below.

If you have any questions, issues or need clarification on anything about the day then please contact me.

Cheers

Stu Austin
