Summer Scouting
This Summer, leaders and young leaders from across the District supported Gilwell in running a Summer Scouts Holiday Club for 3 days a week from the 2nd – 27th August. The holiday club was run in conjuction with the Young Barnet Foundation as part of the government-led HAF programme and was aimed at young people aged 6 – 14 from across Barnet.
We had a great time running lots of creative and messy activities for the young people, from painting animals on pebbles to modelling our favourite foods out of plasticine. We also played loads of different games like corner football, time machine and relay races – but the favourite games were definitely the ones that involved getting the parachute out! As well as providing activities and games for the young people, on several days they were also given the opportunity to make their own pizzas and assemble their own ice cream masterpieces to eat as well – understandably both of these activities went down well with everyone!
It was lovely to see so many different people come through the doors at Long Lane, but I think the highlight for me was the young people that kept coming back each day. It really consolidated the fact that we were giving them a great experience and that they truly enjoyed the activities that we were running for them. And it was extra special when we had loads of young people then sign up to join Scouting in Barnet – although Tracey has now got a huge task trying to find spaces for them!
Finally, a huge thank you has to go out to Tracey, Ben, Peter, Gill, Trevor and all the young leaders from the District that helped out over the 4 weeks – the young people would not have had such an amazing experience without them!
