History project – update

Finchley, Friern Barnet & Golders Green District history

I thought it would be a good idea to give everyone a brief update as to where we are with this project.

During the last 8 months we have provided articles relating to 13 Groups as well as those covering Frith Grange, Finchley Lodge, King’s & Queen’s Scouts, The War Years and the AHVSU. We hope that another Group report will be added to the website within the next week or so. These articles are supported by more than 300 photos.

Although we have additional material to add to some of the existing articles, notably the 4th, 5th, 6th, 10th and 15th Finchley, we are currently trying to get a bit done about as many other Groups as possible. We have quite a bit of material from the 11th Finchley to sift through as well as plenty of information about several other Groups.

I also wanted to again thank those of you who have lent us some of their records and to confirm that they will, as promised, be returned when we have extracted and copied as much relevant information as possible. On that subject I would remind you that if you know of anyone who might be able to help please put them in touch with us. Photographs and memories are always welcome.

If you’ve got any questions please get in touch.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
