Frith Grange news

Date: 9th Sep 2021 Author: Andrew Rush

Please don’t forget a couple of Frith bits of news happening over the beginning of this exciting and busy term!

Weekend Crew Sunday  – 12th September

This Sunday is our Crew induction day.  We have a number of people coming along but a few more would be very welcome too!   Let me know in advance if you’re coming,  there is a role for everyone 16 and older that wants one.  Helping with tasks, a bit of maintenance, running activities and lots more.

This day is to introduce the role,  look at the site,  talk about the tasks we need to tackle,  some training and safety bits and pieces and look at how the rota of this new crew team will work.   It would be amazing to have you joining in.  We’re at Frith 10:00 – 15:30 on Sunday (lunch provided).

Fencing Instructor Course – 2nd October

We are going to offer fencing as one of the activities @ Frith and to do this we need instructors,  the new kit is ordered and the instructor course is booked.   We have 3 places left on this all day instructor course on 2nd October, if you’re interested in becoming an instructor please get in touch.

Activity Update

Raspberry Pis!  We have 10 of these machines and they’re available for booking now and cost £20 per session.  Digital Citizens badge made easy!  This might be a perfect winter weather programme idea.

The Climbing Wall is undergoing some updating and TLC but will reopen in October – This activity is £20 per hour.

Shooting bookings are coming in thick and fast – Steve is enjoying the challenge of finding enough instructors!  Keep up the good work,  he needs to be kept busy.   This is £30 per hour,  £25 with your own instructor.

Archery continues to be closed at the moment but this will open as soon as possible – an update will come out asap.  When running this activity is £30 per hour,  £25 with your own instructor.

Fencing and Tomahawk throwing will be available to book later this term,  prices are TBC but I expect them to be similar to the archery and shooting.

Get booking – new OSM based Frith booking system

Sent out from Anita on 2nd September:

 1. You can make a booking without OSM, using the portal here: https://www.onlinescoutmanager.co.uk/v/frith-grange

Simply click on the view availability and Book online today button.

Or

2. You can make a booking from within OSM

If you have a meeting in your programme, or an event planned. Simply go to the Venue bookings tab.

Find Frith Grange in the Venue drop down list and make sure that you pick Barnet Scouts from the organisation drop down. Click on Create booking.

Plus an extra bit from me:

When booked can I please ask you to be sure you are using the space you’re booking, and not just hedging your bets by having it as an option to use, and you are only booking the amount of space that you really need?

If you wished to socially distance at 2 meters between each person on site, excluding the car park and buildings there is enough space for over 1500 people!   So when one unit, or section within a Group books multiple zones and they really don’t need it (perhaps) unknowingly they’re stopping other users from sharing Frith Grange which seems a bit unfair and unnecessary.

If you want to be  part of the new crew or book a place on the course to become a fencing instructor please get in touch with me and share this with your teams.

Happy Scouting as we start our new Scouting year!

Best wishes
