Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike 2024 update

Date: 13th Sep 2024 Author: Andrew Rush

Here’s an update about the forthcoming Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike, taking place on Saturday 12th October 2024.  This year’s event will once again have a start and finish at a big school somewhere in the Chiltern Hills.  This location is within easy access to main roads and a mile from the nearest railway station.  All the update info has been added to a document you can download here.

The online entry database is now open and will close at 22:00 on Saturday 28th September.

The event organisers have introduced more safety features for this year’s event.  This includes:

  • A maximum number of 90 teams.  Please enter your teams as soon as possible;
  • A return to the Felltrack scanning system at the start, finish and each checkpoint;
  • A cut-off point at one of the later checkpoints to prevent walking in the dark.

We will continue to organise a Sunday event which you can attend on any Sunday in October, which is especially for teams that are unable to participate on 12th October.

We are once again putting on three navigation sessions, so that Leaders can bring their Scouts.  You will need to book this up in advance.  They are:

  • Saturday 21st September, from 09:30 to 12:30 at Cheshunt station, run by Colin and Gill Kirk, contact colin.kirk2@outlook.com
  • Tuesday 24th September, from 18:00 to 20:00 at Trent Park, run by Colin Batsford, contact batsfordcolin@gmail.com
  • Sunday 29th September, from 09:30 to 12:00 at Martins Green Car park next to Danemead Scout campsite, run by Asa Kitchiner, contact asa.kitchiner@gmail.com

If you have any general questions about the event, please email chiltern20secretary@gmail.com

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
