A new King’s Scout!
Henry Thomas was presented with his King’s Scout Award on stage at a packed gathering in front of the entire 6th Friern Barnet Scout Group. This was a curtain raiser just before the start of the annual Group Christmas Show.
Henry started Scouting aged six at the 6th Friern Barnet, achieving his Chief Scout’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. He took part in lots of memorable camps and activities, making loads of friends along the way. He then joined The Hatters ESU and was lucky enough to take part in an international camp to India. They hiked across the Himalayas and conducted an optical project, prescribing nomads with glasses to improve their everyday life. This was a life changing experience for so many local people. Henry is currently a second year economics student at the University of Bath. He completed his DofE Gold last summer and has now doubled it up by achieving his King’s Scout Award.
He has camped with his Unit across England, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, and as a Young Leader at 6th Friern Barnet he has twice attended the Haarlem Jamborette. He has spent many weekends supporting adults with dementia and then undertook an environmental project to make the Walker Ground in Southgate look even more beautiful. Henry has become a football coach, he’s an accomplished swimmer, hiked across the South Downs and played an active part at an archaeology and adventure residential week at Sayer Croft in Surrey.
Henry follows in the footsteps of his older brother Freddie who was one of the last recipients in Barnet Borough to receive the Queen’s Scout Award. Henry now becomes the first King’s Scout in modern times in Barnet Borough.
