Ready Steady Cook – Scouts
At the moment (4th March) we are running only the session at 10am – but can open up the 1pm session as we have a judge etc and Frith is booked.
Below are the number of teams that I know about that are entering (it’s 4 per team plus an over 18 supervisor) – please confirm by Wednesday 8th March or if possible earlier:
- 1st Lyonsdown – 2 teams
- 4th East Barnet – 2 teams
- 6th Friern Barnet – please confirm numbers
- 8th Barnet – 2 teams
- 20th Finchley – 2 teams
If you hear of anyone else who wants to enter please send me their details and I will check with them.
I have also put below a reminder of the arrangements. Please be in touch if anything does not make sense or if you have any questions.

Timing
Arrival time – 10am (if possible come for 9.45am to set up)
Finish time – 12pm
Cost
Please bring £5 cash per team or make a bank transfer to our Group account. (Details have been circulated)
What should they wear?
Scout uniform – they may also want to bring an apron
What equipment should our Group bring?
- 2 burner cooker and gas
- Frying pan and/or wok
- Small nest of billies
- Colander
- Chopping board
- Sharp knives
- Cooking utensils e.g. wooden spoon, spatula, fish slice, straining spoon, tin opener
- Plates, knives, forks, spoons (This is a change from previous years)
- Place setting equipment: table cloth, napkins, etc. If you do not have any of these there will be a box of items available from which you can borrow something
- Washing up bowl
- Tea towel(s)
District will provide:
- 1 table for both preparation and cooking
- The same ingredients per team
- A table on which there will be shared ingredients for all teams: spices, herbs, etc
Rules
Each Team will consist of up to 4 Scouts and a Leader or adult who are in a supervisory capacity only
Each team will be given the same core ingredients as well as access to shared ingredients such as salt, pepper, herbs and spices
Once they have their core ingredients teams will have a few minutes to decide what they are going to cook/create as a starter, a main course and a dessert
Each Team will have up to 1 hour in which to create a 2/3 course meal and lay a table for 2 settings
Teams will have to clear down and wash up whilst judging takes place
Judges’ decisions are final and cannot be disputed
What about the risk assessment?
Please note we are relying on each Group to have the emergency contact details for their members
Parking
Everyone will be able to park on site – we suggest that adults park behind the building to allow space for parents
