Scouts’ Water Activities Weekend

Date: 8th Apr 2022 Author: Andrew Rush

Water Activities Weekend

This weekend includes sailing, kayaking, canoeing and various other water-based activities.

Scouts will sleep in cabins either in a bunk or camp bed on a ship called the Lord Amory moored in the East India Dock, adjacent to Canary Wharf. All water activity staff/instructors are fully qualified by the Docklands Scout Project and they have a range of safety boats patrolling constantly.

Scouts attending must be able to swim 50 metres, wearing the clothing they will be wearing in water.

The Scouts will meet at 15th Finchley HQ, 104 Grove Road, North Finchley N12 9EA at 5.30pm prompt on Friday 24th June wearing full uniform with their personal kit after having had a meal (later that evening they will only get a snack).

They will then be travelling to the Dockland Scout Project (DSP), HQTS Lord Amory, 631 Manchester Road, Dollar Bay, London, E14 3NU by coach.

The Scouts will return to 15th Finchley HQ on Sunday 26th June at approx. 5pm.

The cost for this camp will be £100, payable in two instalments of £50 on 30th April and 30th May, or if you wish one payment by 30th April.  £60 of this will be a non-refundable deposit in the event that the Scout does not attend the weekend.

The large number of changes of clothing required is because they will obviously get wet several times and will need dry clothing to start the next session.  Dustbin liners are required for bringing the wet clothing home.

The days consist of several sessions interspersed with breaks for drink and snacks, followed by a shower.  When they have finished their last activity session on Sunday they will pack, then all will have to help to clean the ship and other areas before they leave.

The ship has a tuck shop called “The Nutty” where they can buy sweets, soft drinks and souvenirs.  They should bring no more than £5 pocket money to spend; if they bring more, they will not be allowed to spend it.

This event is expected to be oversubscribed.  As in previous years, places will be given on a ‘first come first served’ basis.  Places go fast!

You cannot reserve a place by email or phone.
