Scouts at Trooping the Colour

Date: 13th Jun 2022 Author: Andrew Rush

On Thursday 2nd June the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations started with the traditional Trooping The Colour. A small group of members from 1st Finchley, 2nd Edgware, 6th Friern Barnet, 20th Finchley, Evolution ESU and Harlequin ESU had the opportunity to join other police-escorted youth groups to watch the display. This was followed by the chance to lead the Mall Movement down to Buckingham Palace, with a unique view right in front of the Royal Family!

Here’s what one 2nd Edgware Scout thought:

My name is Kimi and I thought that the Platinum Jubilee Trooping The Colour Parade was a great experience. At first I just thought we were going to spectate but we were actually allowed to parade along the Mall down to Buckingham Palace, and our Scout Group was surprisingly caught on TV!

I loved seeing the Royal Air Force fly past over Buckingham Palace – my favourite part was when the planes flew in the shape of a 70. I think it was a very memorable time and I really enjoyed it.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
