Gone home – Pauline Atkinson

16 March 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we write to let you know the sad news that Pauline Atkinson passed away on the evening of Monday 12th March. She had been very unwell for the last 10 days, but we were privileged to fulfil her wish to bring her home where she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her nearest and dearest – including Milo.

All of Pauline’s family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate her life at 2pm on Thursday 22nd March at Claremont Free Church, 167A Cheviot Gardens, NW2 1PY. This is the church where Brian and Pauline were married 51 years ago this week and where Pauline had been treasurer for over 30 years.

As you might expect, Pauline has left some very specific instructions as to how we celebrate and mark her life. Please can we ask everyone to follow these to help us make this the unique and special occasion that Pauline wished it to be.

Firstly, Pauline has asked that no-one wears black. In fact, she asks that people wear bright and cheerful colours. Scout and Guide uniforms are also encouraged for those of you from the wider Scout and Guide families to which she belonged.

Secondly, Pauline has asked for no real flowers. Instead, she has asked for everyone (no exceptions!) to make a craft flower to bring to the celebration with them. This could be paper, crochet, elaborate or simple. We’ve enclosed some ideas and there will be a craft table at the back of church for anyone who is unable to prepare a flower beforehand.

In lieu of flowers, Pauline has requested that donations are made to The Eve Appeal. This is the UK charity for raising awareness of and research into the five gynaecological cancers.

We have set up a Tribute site which has most of the details and to which you can add your own photos and memories of Pauline. There is also a link to make donations to The Eve Appeal if this is something you’d like to do.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday and you are invited to refreshments afterwards in The Carey Hall which is adjacent to the Church. In the spirit of the Eve Appeal Make Time for Tea campaign this will be tea, cake and sandwiches.

With our love,

Brian, Simon and Helen, Gary and Andrew
