The 15th were proud to be able to celebrate their president’s, Grace Fensome, 80th Birthday with a special dinner at their headquarters. The dinner was extra special because all the preparation and serving of the meal was conducted by Scouts from the Troop with a little help (and we mean a little!) from adults.

A three course meal of Leek and Potato soup, Beef Bourguignon, Poached Pear In Cassis With Crème Fraiche, Cheese & Biscuits and finally coffee & mints was prepared by the Scouts.

With the exception of dispensing alcohol at reception the Scouts did all the serving themselves and most of the clearing-up.

It was a superb event.

We were pleased to be able to honour Grace’s 80th Birthday in this way (How many people reading this realised that this energetic lady had reached such a milestone?). Grace is still a very active member of the Group and the prime organiser of many of our functions such as the annual dinner/dance and our annual senior citizens’ party. We are all very grateful to her

Shooting Line Up

Last weekend, 14 Scouts and 2 leaders from across the Borough took part in the prestigious National Scout Shooting Competition, held at Bisley, Surrey. With over 760 Scouts and Explorer Scouts taking part, the weekend was going to be a busy one!

We arrived on Friday evening, set up the tents after which we had a briefing by John Dohoo (National Scout Shooting Adviser) about the format of the weekend, along with safety rules etc.

There are a number of competitions that you can take part in, the main competition consists of 4 disciplines:

  • Air pistol
  • Air rifle 6 yd
  • Field Target air rifle
  • Knockdown air rifle
All 14 scouts took part in the above.

Scouts Remember PDF Print E-mail

Barnet Scouts played their part in this year's Remembrance day events and for the first time in many years, there was a small representation at the official Barnet ceremony held at Barnet Church, in Barnet High Street. The group of 8 Explorer Scouts were invited to join representatives of the other youth groups in the Borough (such as the St Johns, Army, RAF cadets) and the Territorial Army, for which we were very grateful. Scouts do not march any more and so we followed behind the other groups as they marched through the High Street with accompaniment from the Hill Hill School CCF band.

Remembrance this year is especially poignant for many as some of our youngsters have family members serving in areas of conflict.

A wreath was laid on behalf of the Scouts of Barnet Borough District along with wreathes laid by other dignitaries and organizations.

Many Scouts and Scouters of all ages took part in their own local services and events of Remembrance and many groups will have discussed the relevance and meaning of these events in their own groups as part of the balanced programme.

An aim of Scouting is to help our young people become active and valuable members of our community and it was a pleasure for our young people to represent the District at this important event.
